 1) David, Earl (seit 1919) Beatty of the North Sea and of Brooksby [- ɔv ȓə 'nɔːθ siː ænd ɔv 'brʊksbɪ], britischer Großadmiral, * Borodale (County Wexford, Irland), nach anderen Angaben Stapeley (bei Nantwich, County Cheshire) 17. 1. 1871, ✝ London 11. 3. 1936; führte im Ersten Weltkrieg das britische Schlachtkreuzergeschwader in den Gefechten bei Helgoland (28. 8. 1914 und an der Doggerbank (24. 1. 1915 sowie in der Seeschlacht vor dem Skagerrak (31. 5./1. 6. 1916); war 1916-19 Chef der »Grand Fleet« (»Große Flotte«), 1919-27 Erster Seelord.
